RIBA Lecture: John Stewart FRIBA FRSA
Thursday 19 April / 7pm / Free, booking required
The annual RIBA Lecture organised by the Buckinghamshire Society of Architects. The speakers are well-known, inspirational architects with a connection to the county. The Buckinghamshire Society of Architects represents more than 400 local members of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Its annual Lectures are of general interest and all are welcome.
John Stewart, most recently a Vice President of Jacobs leading their 700-strong UK-based multidisciplinary architecture team, was previously Head of Buckinghamshire County Council’s Department of Architecture. During his career, he designed numerous local public buildings, including Milton Keynes Magistrates Courts, Summerfield School and the Wycombe Swan Theatre. John was recently appointed a Fellow of the RIBA.
John’s first book - a biography of Alvar Aalto, the Finnish architect and designer who was one of the masters of Modern architecture - was published in 2017. His next book, Nordic Classical Architecture on this significant early 20th century Scandinavian movement will be published by Bloomsbury later this year, and he has just completed his third book The Twentieth Century Town Hall. Come and hear John talk about Alvar Aalto, his architecture and its impact.
